As a long time contact lens user, for nine years to be exact, I’m concerned of the proper care of contact lenses. If you wear contact lenses too, you ought to be as concerned as I am!

I’m honoured to be one of the youth ambassadors for the campaign- At First Sight.

““At First Sight” is a youth oriented contact lens care campaign that stresses the importance of proper cleaning and tending of contact lenses amongst university students.

The campaign arises due to an increasing trend of contact lens usage by youths for the purpose of a beautified appearance.

However, a negligence to properly contact lens care results in a higher risk of eye infections and other eye health problems.

“At First Sight” hopes to communicate the message of prioritizing eye health above appearances because the sights you share with your loved ones are the sights truly worth keeping.“

Yesterday, 18 January 2012, the people of At First Sight came to NUS to raise some awareness among the NUS people.

They are so creative to use Tarot reading to encourage people to take good care of their contact lenses!

I was on my way to The Deck to grab a quick lunch before heading back to the library for our Social Media presentation (we stayed in school till 3am the night before!), when I saw the folks of At First Sight.

As a somewhat superstitious person, I was eager to get a Tarot reading.

I picked The Tower:

It says:

“Abandonment of past: Old habits die hard but this is a time of rejuvenation. You need a good cleaning regime for your contact lenses.

Following old ways, A rut: You often find yourself caught in a vicious cycle. Don’t take chances on your eye health.“

Reminder to self: you better heed the advice and take better care of your eyes and contact lenses!

The wise one told me to abandon my old habits, which include not taking good care of my contact lenses. In this new year, 2012, I ought to say goodbye to this habit which will bring me no good.

More and more youths, including undergraduates, wear contact lenses, but who dare say that he/she has taken due care of the contact lenses? It might be due to laziness or simply ignorance.

Keep an eye, or two hahah, on At First Sight if you wanna keep the windows to your soul ‘clean’ and healthy!

It suddenly hit me that for the past three years, I’d enjoyed CNM because it’s fun. It’s fun to come up with an advertising campaign, do crisis management, design an interactive product etc.

But at the end of the day, how much of these will give us that edge when we sit in the interview room?

Yes, critical thinking.

I’m sorry but I sincerely do not think that critical thinking can be taught. I hate to admit this but I think I’m not a very bright person. After “learning” critical thinking for three years, I still couldn’t think critically, be it in class or when engaging intellectual debates with friends.

The most I can do is to argue that their points are wrong. Yet, I could not substantiate my own points to prove that I’m right. Proving that they are wrong doesn’t make me a winner. It’s a draw.

Reflecting on this Indian movie I’d watched a few months ago

Even though I had a hard time deciphering the Chinese subtitles (and fast-forwarding the songs and dances), I really enjoyed this film! It’s longer than I’d anticipated; too accustomed to the Hollywood’s 95 minutes.

Then after, I read kennysia’s post.

Now, I’m less sure of my future than before I entered college.

How?

I was wondering why Donald was sulking when my friend pointed out to me that his boat was sinking. Oh.

The following two photos are blur but they are sufficient as evidence of a China man in red cutting my queue.

It can’t be helped but Disneyland was kinda full of these fellow tourists. I’m less prejudiced against them than they are (an online poll initiated by a Chinese for Chinese voted Singaporeans as the most disgusting people. Seriously? We don’t step on rabbits to get famous. Thanks.) but maybe it was our luck that the unpleasant encounters we had were with them.

For instance, boyfriend was taking something out from his pocket (while we were walking to a queue), a coin dropped out from his pocket and was rolling  towards the queue. The coin rolled towards a China woman who was waiting in line. It stopped after hitting her foot and she happily picked it up and pocketed it. I know it’s small money but it doesn’t belong to you and you jolly well know it. Ok, stopping myself here if not I’m going have to spend another 2 hours typing all these.

Moving on…

“Small world” ride.

I took around 200+ shots through the ride. This puts the Madagascar ride in USS to shame.

Heavy rain after we were done with this ride.

And it gave me a darn good reason to buy

a kid’s size Minnie Mouse brolly. Poor BF, who’s 1.8m, had to share this tiny brolly with me.

“Winnie the Pooh” ride. Boring.

My favourite part of the ride: feeling the “boi-ing” of Tigger.

Lion King’s show. Boring too. Or maybe I was just disappointed that we’d gone to the wrong show. I wanted to watch Golden Mickeys.

Very elaborated set nonetheless.

Aiya Captain! Best ride in Disney (but I’ve conveniently forgotten the name of this ride. Something to do with Buzz Lightyear). Comparable to the Mummy’s ride in USS.  The latter is much shorter and has more effects though.

Barely started our dinner when we were told that the fireworks had begun. Rushed out to catch it despite our grumbling stomachs.

I took 200+ shots of the fireworks too.

By the time we were done with dinner, we were the only ones left in the whole park. Managed to grab some souvenirs as the Disney people were so nice that they didn’t chase us out!

Even though we went early in the morning, we didn’t have time to take all the rides nor visit the whole park. A little disappointed but it was great to have spent time in such a magical place with my special one. <3

Went out to explore and to have lunch and dimsum (watch out for this!) while our rooms were getting ready for us.

When I was back in SG, I was really grateful for not having these water mines here.

We couldn’t wait till the dimsum as that would be 2.5hours later. More about that in a bit.

So again, a random restaurant.

It actually reads “Mong Kok Branch” on the far right. So, I was telling my friends that this eatery should be quite decent since it’s good enough to have a branch. Logical yea? The apple doesn’t fall far from the tree.

Verdict? So-so! Although BF really likes the roasted pig. I thought it was average but it was surely the best dish among all.

We still had a lot of time to spare after lunch so I persuaded them to hunt for my cold noodles.

I need a hair trim and hair dye badly!

Found it! This cold noodle at Argyle Centre is so widely raved and recommended online so I made a point to try this. As I can’t speak Cantonese at all, I had difficulties communicating with the stall owner, so I simply pointed at random stuff that didn’t look too yucky.

It could be the wrong stuff I ordered, or me being too full from the meal just less than 0.5hours before, I didn’t like this cold noodle as much as I wished I would.

Here comes THE dim sum

Tim Ho Wan Dim Sum Restaurant which is the cheapest Michelin-Star restaurant. Read more about it.

When we first reached there at 12pm, we were told to go back at 2.40pm and when we did, we waited for a further 30-40 minutes. It was kinda frustrating ‘cos we were just standing outside waiting for so long. Really a test for endurance/tolerance/patience. Well, not surprisingly to say, we were not the only ones.

FINALLY. After 3+ long hours.

By then, I was too tired to bother to take nice photos. And the place was so crammed that you can barely bend down to touch your toes. It’s a nightmare. Please don’t bring any bulky bags with you when you go there. You’ll thank me.

Ok, so expect badly taken food photos. I was really tired. Didn’t even feel like eating after waiting for so long.

Here’s something biased from me: if there’s something which I have to eat daily for the rest of my life, it will be this. I’m a century egg porridge/congee lover and this is good.

The must-try pan fried cha siew buns. The best rated dish among my friends. We did reorder this!

Some I-can’t-remember-dumplings. Don’t bother with this. I took a bite and threw it aside.

Very different from SG’s. We didn’t like it very much.

Decent.

Were we too tired from the waiting? We didn’t finish this either.

We prefer Crystal Jade’s version of this as CJ’s comes with yummy salted egg yolk. This ain’t that bad to be frank.

We still had some dishes here and there but I was really on the verge of crumbling and didn’t bother to take any more photos.

Until this came,

pan fried radish cake. It literally melts in the mouth. Awesome ‘cept I prefer carrots over radish.

That marks the end of our dim sum voyage. Did I like the food? Hmmm… I reckon if I was there in a different circumstance, I would probably like the food there. But the waiting is really a killer and it killed the mood. I won’t mind giving this place another try, only after careful planning.

We slumped down into the bed the very moment we were back. Though tired, I was looking forward to the itinerary later at night.

Thankful for the comfy bed.

The vehicles almost collided as the lights turned green but the cars ain’t moving.

BF starting to get photography kicks. For the rest of the trip, he was relentlessly taking photos.

And sometimes, I felt embarrassed for taking photos at certain random places.

But I really gotta love that man for making these memories in film. So expect more photos of me and only me. Hahah.

BF was determined to keep taking photos of me to the extent of almost missing the ferry. Or maybe I was just being the kan cheong spider. That’s me screaming HURRY UP.

To which he replied, “come take a photo here!”

Guess where we were heading to yet?

On First Ferry and feeling like I could vomit any time. I was literally holding the vomit bag right at my chin, standing by. Luckily I didn’t. Imagine the dimsum which I queued up for so long in the vomit bag! (Turbo Jet is another ferry service which is much more comfortable. I didn’t feel like vomiting at all and it’s 24/7.)

Macau!

No wonder Jan likes it here. The entire place was clean, well developed and nothing short of grandness.

Passing by the bridge on our way to a restaurant recommended by the cabby.

Like most of the cabbies we met, this one was so chatty and enthusiastic about Macau. He even shared that he has to gamble at least once a day. Come to think of it, I think SG’s $100 casino entry levy seems like a necessary implementation.

The one in the middle of the bottom row goes well with almost everything! It’s a little like shrimp paste (heh bee?) in SG.

No photos of the raw nor cooked food. Lazy, I know! Anyway, the portions were generous. Don’t order too much at one go.

Nearing the end of the dinner, it struck 12 midnight and we sung the Birthday song.

After the heavy dinner, time to try our luck at

Galaxy Macau – a $2 billion casino. It was its first day opening after a two-year delay. Boy, we didn’t plan for this. And according to this article, Macau’s gaming revenue is four times of that of Las Vegas.

I would like to believe that these stones serve for feng shui purposes.

Still pretty nonetheless.

I love this wall. It’s a peacock opening up its feathers. Beautiful.

And after a few rounds,

heh. Won HKD1750 which is approx S$280. Small money, I know. But that was my first time in a casino. Beginner’s luck!

At 3+am, I was really sleepy. And satisfied with the experience, I didn’t want to gamble any more.

While the duo continue to have fun, we went around taking more photos.

Bye, Macau! I had fun. I promise to go explore in the day next time. There are so much more in Macau than just these. And of course, so much more food for me to try!
